10.3 and 3.1 VSI-Hosted Customer: How to update images in WebTrac
Learn how to update images in WebTrac for customers hosted with 10.3 and 3.1 platforms.
Problem
Our Department wants to update images on our WebTrac site hosted by VSI. Can you show us how to get the new images viewable on our site?
Solution
Updating WebTrac images on the web server is part of the service VSI provides to its Fully-Hosted and WebTrac-Hosted customers.
When adding or changing images for WebTrac, you must first select the image for display in RecTrac and then email a copy of the image to the VSI-Hosted Team who will place it in the \images directory of your WebTrac server.
For Example: To add or change a picture for an Activity Section you would:
1. In RecTrac, go to Section Management. Highlight/Select the Section in question and click Change.
2. Expand the WebTrac Settings group.
3. In the Web Section Image field, click the File Upload icon, browse to, and select (Open) the image you want to associate with the Activity Section when it is being displayed in WebTrac. Allowed file formats include: .jpg, .bmp, .png .gif.
4. Upon selecting the image, the system will prepend the file name with \WebTracimages\. For Example: Your image name is MyActivity.jpg. When you select that image, this field will fill with: \WebTracimages\MyActivity.jpg.
5. Save your changes.
6. Upload the image using our Hosted Image Requests site. The site is located at https://images.myvscloud.com/. Sign in and follow the directions on uploading your image to WebTrac. If needed, you may create an account or reset your password using the same link.
Note: By default, WebTrac displays thumbnail images at 165 (width) x 110 (height) pixels. Images are resized automatically upon display. Click-able images, such as those used for Facilities, will display at their actual size when a patron clicks the thumbnail to enlarge the image. When selecting images for display in WebTrac, VSI recommends the following for best results:
Pre-size your images to dimensions that are directly proportional to 165x110. When sized proportionately, your image will not lose its aspect ratio and appear skewed when reduced to display in the thumbnail.
Keep the file size of your images at or below 100kb. When patrons hit your WebTrac site, all images must be downloaded to the patron's browser. Larger images tax your Web Server and result in longer/slower page load on the patron's browser.
