In this video, we're going to be going over how to set up a discount, more specifically a discount for a multi child registration. So for example, you're enrolling two kids into the same activity section and you want that second child to get a discounted rate. And this can be used for really similar similar setup, maybe it's, you know, for people are enrolling and you only want the third and above to get a discount or something like that. There's different options. So this will kind of go over setting up different styles of multi child discounts. So to do this, I'm going to first go to activity management. And you could link a discount fee just to like an activity section. So you could be going into activity section management, and linking it to the section level. But if you do want the discount to cover all sections of an activity, you can do what I'm doing now I'm just going into activity management. And in this case, we're just linking the discount fee to our activity level.

So in my example, here, I've got my main registration fees linked to the activity level. So I'm also going to put the discount here. So this is a pretty simple setup, right now I've got $100 for non residents, and any residents will be a cheaper rate of $75. But now I want to set up a discount. So if I enroll two people, only the second one gets a discount, the first person still pays the full price. So to do that, I'm going to add a new fee. And I can really name my fee, whatever I want it to be, I'm just gonna call it second family member free. Or I guess it won't be free, we'll do a discount. So second family member discount. And the next thing I like to do since some of these fields we won't need for a discount fee is I switch the fee Type first. So in this drop down, we're either going to be using a discount flat or discount percent. So that's just something to think about. Are we discounting by a certain percentage, or is it a flat amount?
Dane Whitcomb 2:06
In my example, I'm just going to choose a flat amount. And that's going to remove some of these fields we don't need for a discount. So next, I like to jump over to the amount. So since we do did set it the flat, how much do we want to discount. So I'm going to say $15 will discount if this was a percent, so discount, dash percent, if we're using that option, this would act as a percentage Field. So it would be discounting 15%, not $15. So that's just how that Field works. It's used for both the percent and the flat amount. The next thing we really need to do with our discounts is chooser criteria. If we don't have any criteria, it's going to discount every one $15 Always. So you just want to set a criteria to kind of limit who gets discounted. And since we're talking about the multi child discounts, we are going to be using the Advanced criteria, it's actually going to be the third one from the top. So we're gonna Click add new criteria.

And the first thing we need to pick for entity, there's a few options here in the drop down, but we're going to be dealing with any of the ones that say multi participant. So if you use multi participant first family member, that first option would come to this is just going to say discount the first family member enrolling only though it's probably not used as much because usually the first person's you know paying the full price, but there is still the option. And then or you can do first family member and above. So that would kind of discount everyone. And then as you scroll down, you could just discount the second family member. So if you're enrolling three, only the second person third would go back to paying in full. And then there's an option for second family member and above. So first person pays the full rate and then everyone else pays the discounted rate. And so you can kind of go down the list and pick which option works best. In my example, I'm just going to discount the second family member. So not and above just the second family member. And so I can have my operator be equal to one.

For any of these multi participant ones, you can really have your operator on equal to one. That's just saying, I only need each person to enroll into one section. And then I can leave my advanced unit on item. And then the item group, this is something to kind of consider. You'd want it usually to be activity code current item in my setup just because I want all of my sections to be applied to this. If you only want it to be applied to certain sections, you can use what's called a section link. But that's kind of a different setup. Where you're only saying you know I've got three sections in here but only one of them should get the discount and you can kind of flag and by that there is an option for for only current item to and that always just be the item you're adding to cart and that would be this current item criteria. but I would recommend to just use the activity code current item. And then the time units. So do you want people who've enrolled into the section last year, and then you're enrolling the second family this year to get the discount? Or do you want it to just be for this year section.
Dane Whitcomb 5:18
So usually, it's just the current year's section. So if that's the case, you want to use the item dates criteria, and that will just ensure that, you know, if they've enrolled last year, it's not going to consider that and it's going to be for the current year. So at this point, I can Click Save. And I've really set up my discount fee at this point. And all that's left to do is test it. So there's a few kind of moving pieces to the setup part of the discount fee. It's always testing global sales by adding it to cart not necessarily checking out but just making sure the fees add to cart correctly. And if they don't just you can go back and tweak the setup. And to do that like to just go into global sales and go into a household that has at least a few family members that test for these multi participant discounts. So I've got a household up, they're going to get charged the non resident rate. So I'm going to pick two family members and expect one to get discounted.

So I'm clicking on my section. So this is one of those bike lessons ones. And I'm clicking Add to Cart. And when I Click Continue through both of my prompts, we'll just see how the fees look in the shopping cart. And that'll tell us if it's getting discounted or not. So as you can see, my total is $185. And I can see that there's actually two different amounts in the total due for each item. So that kind of gives me a hint in there that my discount is working because my non resident fee was $100 on my activity. So I can see Vivian here is getting charged the full rate. But when I Click on the Update fees for Philip here, I could see is the 85. So again, you can kind of tell there, he's getting that $15 discount, just to be sure Click that update fees Button, you can actually see that discount line item being added. And then it's pulling in the second family member discount. So you can really do this setup for you know, third family member and above just the third family member, just the second family member. So there's different options for that as you saw in that criteria list. So this is how you would do that for a multi child discount.
