Ithaca Printer Not Working on Windows 7 64-bit
Problem
We have tried to install an Ithaca 80 on Windows7 64-bit, but it is not printing.
We are using Virtual Machines/VMWare.
Solution
Installing an ITherm280 on Windows 7 64-bit workstation
(Please note. The only way to utilize an Ithaca iTherm280 with a Windows 7 64-bit workstation is to share out the printer. There is a 'beta' version Virtual Serial Port driver available from Transact but it has not been tested and documented by VSI at this time.)
1 Plug in the printer (windows will NOT recognize the printer). If anything windows will say the printer was NOT installed successfully. Go into Devices and Printers and you will see an unspecified device named Ithaca USB Printer.
2 Right click on the Ithaca USB Printer and go to Properties, click on the Hardware tab and then click Properties. Go to the Driver tab and click Uninstall. Click OK.
3 Download the latest Transact driver from http://www.transact-tech.com/tsg/280drivers.html and extract it to your desktop
4 Go to Devices and Printers: right click and Add a Printer
5 Select the option to Add a Local Printer
6 Use an existing port: USB001
7 On the Install the Printer Driver screen click Have Disk
8 Browse to your local copy of the ITherm280 drivers folder and drill down to the ITherm280-576 folder.
9 Click OK
10 Select the ITherm280 printer from the list and click Next.
11 At the Printer Sharing prompt; give the printer a Share name.
12 Print a test page (test page will NOT cut).
13 On the Receipt/POS device in RecTrac, set the Print Option to S (spooled) and use the share path in the Printer Dev field (i.e.: \\workstation1\ITherm280).
14 A test page from RecTrac should print and cut.
