Problem
How do you setup an APG arlo cash drawer for RecTrac 3.1?
Solution
The APG 485 USBProLite USB-Serial emulation "Smart" cash drawers have been qualified to work with RecTrac 3.1. Models include the Arlo, Vasario, and Series 100 cash drawers. While this APG 485 uses a USB interface for connecting to the host workstation, it uses serial emulation for communication purposes. When plugged into an open USB port on the host workstation, the drawer is designed to automatically prompt the installation of the Prolific PL2303GL (or newer) USB Serial driver in Windows. The Windows OS should assign the next available virtual COM port which can be viewed in Windows Device Manager under the Ports section. Note that installers may need to update the driver in Windows Device Manager to properly configure and operate the drawer AND the Windows operating system may also need Windows Updates applied to properly install the Prolific driver. Follow the manufactures instructions for installing on Windows: APG Cash Drawer | Cash Register Solutions for Point of Sale (POS) (apgsolutions.com)
RecTrac configuration is done in the Peripherals Profile. Assign the virtual COM port assigned in Windows to the Drawer #1 Port (or Drawer #2 Port if dual drawer setup) and use a Drawer Open Code of 7. The drawer open code can be set to 7 using the predefined Drawer Open Codes options list by choosing Ithaca 50 (7).
