Problem
We had a staff member unplug the drawer from the USB port and plug it back in. Now it is not popping open from RecTrac. How can we fix this?
Error Message
COM# Not Valid
Solution
When you unplug and replug the USB cable into the same port, it technically changes the COM port of the plugged-in device to the next available COM port. Double-check the COM port assignment for the drawer in Windows Device Manager and make sure it matches the same COM port as the peripherals profile linked to the workstation that is utilizing the MMF drawer in RecTrac.
Steps For Solution
- Go to the Windows Device Manager program and make a note of the COM port assignment for the drawer under the Ports tab
- In RecTrac, go to Profile Assignments
- Highlight the Peripheral Profile that is linked to your workstation
- Click Update
- Review the COM Port assignments, if they don't match the Windows Device Manager COM Ports, update the peripheral COM Port assignment to match.
- Click Save
- Right-Click on the VIC icon in the Windows Tray
- Click Exit to shut down the VIC program
- Right-click on the desktop VIC icon
- Click Run as administrator to hard-reboot the VIC program
- Log out and back into RecTrac and your VIC should be connecting right away
- Go to Global Sales
- Click Skip Household > Skip Household Lookup
- Click Cart Options > Pop Drawer to test the new COM port assignments.
If the drawer pops, that means that VIC is able to communicate with the drawer and that the COM Port assignments match.
