Problem
How can we limit certain activities, passes, tickets, etc. to be for specific ages only?
Solution
You would add a rule to the item using the Age criterion.
Note:
Rules can be linked at various linking levels. Linking an Age restriction rule at a higher level will affect all the records that fall under that linking level.
For Example:
You have an Activity Category of Teen set up to organize teenage program offerings. An Age rule that allows enrollment if the age is between 13-19 would only need to be linked once to the Activity Category of Teen, instead of to the individual Activity Sections.
Steps For Solution
- Identify what linking level you will be adding the rule to and go to the appropriate management screen.
- Highlight the record you wish to add the age rule to from the DataGrid.
- Click Change.
- Click the Rules tab.
- Click Add > Add Rule.
- On the popup, select New Blank Record and click Continue.
- Set Rule Description to explain the age restriction. (i.e. Ages 3-5)
- Set Rule Option to Allow.
- Select the Transaction Type(s) that will trigger the rule. (Purchase is the most common, Renew comes into play with passes, etc…)
- Set the Override Option if desired.
- Under Other Criteria, select Age.
- Click Add New Criteria.
- Enter the desired age range in Begin Age and End Age.
Note:
Typically you will enter the End Age as <x>.99 where <x> is the age such as 5 (i.e. 5.99) to allow family members fully that age to be impacted.
For example: your Tiny Tots swim program is limited to children who are 3-5 years old. You would create a Rule and enter a Begin Age of '3.00' and an End Age of '5.99.' This would allow a child who is older than 5 but not 6 (i.e. someone who is "5 and a half") to meet the criterion requirement.
- Decide when the patron needs to meet this age requirement using the Aging Date Option.
- Click Save to save the criteria.
- Click Save to save the rule.
- Click Save to save the record.
Next time a patron attempts a transaction with a type selected in step 9, they will encounter this age rule.
