3.1 Socket Email Log Error: Authentication Failed
Problem
RecTrac is not sending out any emails. Scheduled reports and receipts are not being sent out. Reports are being generated, but the email is failing. We followed the steps in KBase 3474 (which was helpful!) and found this in the in the Socket email log:
"Socket email Log error line: 535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed: authentication failure."
What does this mean?
Solution
This is not as ominous as it sounds. The error message simply means the SMTP username or password on the Email Relay has changed.
To resolve this, go to your Email profile(s) and update the SMTP User and/or SMTP Password fields. If you're not sure how to do this, there are some steps below. Otherwise, Save your changes in Profile Management, and then test whether you can email a report.
To modify your Email profile
- In RecTrac, browse to Profile Management. In the standard VSI design, this is on the main Management menu, under the User/Menu/Profile Management group.
- Scroll down the DataGrid, find, select your Email profile, and click Change.
- Find the SMTP User and SMTP Password fields. Update them as needed with their current credentials.
- Save your changes. Repeat these steps for any other Email profiles you have, and exit back to the main menu when you're done.
- Run a report and test whether you can email it.
