The Unit Code Update screen allows you to add or update Unit Codes. Unit Codes allow you to set up base units of measurement that are used throughout the system, as well as conversion factors for larger or smaller units. Units are used extensively for reporting and statistical purposes, so great care should be taken during setup.
Note MainTrac comes pre-loaded with a complete set of standard units. If you use Resource Management … Labor Management, then you need to add/edit Unit Codes for your Work Day, Work Week, and Work Year. These units are needed for Job Scheduling but will vary from Department to Department, so VSI does not offer default values.
Note: Field names on the screen with red labels* are required by the screen design you are using. Mandatory fields in the default Vermont Systems design are noted where appropriate. Your design and mandatory fields may vary.

MTUNITUpdate_Tab1
Unit Code (MTUNIT_UnitCode)
If you are creating a new Unit, then enter your Unit Code in this field. Codes may be alpha and/or numeric. For Example: Cubic Yard. This is a mandatory field for the standard VSI Design. Your Design may vary.
If you are updating an existing Unit Code then you will not visit this field.
DeleteUnit Name (MTUNIT_UnitName)
Enter the Name you wish to use for this Unit. For Example: Cubic Yard.
DeleteType (MTUNIT_type)
Expand the Drop-down list and select the Type of Unit.
THEN
Enter your Conversion factor based on the Type you selected. For Example: Your Unit is a Cubic Yard. Your Type would be 'Volume' and your Conversion would be '27.00' because there are 27 cubic feet in one (1) cubic yard (3 feet in a yard, where Length (3 feet) x Width (3 feet) x Height (3 feet) = 27 feet).
- Length - Length in U.S. Feet (Linear distance from Point A to Point B)
- Area - Area in Square Feet (Length x Width).
- Volume - Volume in Cubic Feet (Length x Width x Height).
- Weight - Weight in U.S. Pounds.
- Time - Time in Seconds.
- Count - Count as in Each" or "Per."
Conversion to Feet/Square Feet/Cubic Feet/Seconds/Each/Pounds (MTUNIT_Conversion)
Enter the Conversion factor for one (1) of your Units based on the Type you select.
Examples:
- Unit = Meter. Type = Length. Conversion to Feet = 3.28084.
- Unit= Acre. Type = Area. Conversion to Square Feet = 43,560.00
- Unit = US Gallon. Type = Volume. Conversion to Cubic Feet = 0.133681.
- Unit = US Ton. Type = Weight. Converson to Pounds = 2,000.00.
- Unit = 8-hour Work Day. Type = Time. Conversion to Seconds = 28,800.00
- Unit = Ream of Paper. Type = Count. Conversion to Each = 500.00
