How to apply interim-release patch files in 3.1
Question
I got VS Connect saying there are patch files to install for a bug fix. How do I apply those in 3.1?
Answer
There are two options.
Use the DB_Utilities program:
1. Access the Vermont Systems sFTP site. Refer to Knowledge Base entry 1516 for the current sFTP login credentials.
2. Once in the sFTP Site, browse to the location where the current Patch files are being stored. For Example: /File Updates And Drivers/RecTrac/3.1/Updates/3.1.10/Builds/_3.1.10.04.03_Patch_Files/
NOTE: The location above is an EXAMPLE only. RecTrac version and/or build numbers will change with each release. Vermont Systems may not keep this Knowledge Base up to date with the current release level.
3. Read the Readme file. This contains important information you'll need for the patch. For best results, open the Readme.txt file in Notepad with wordwrapping turned on/enabled.
4. Highlight\Select the required patch files, right-click and Copy. If the patch file is in a sub-directory, make note of its location. You will need this information later on in the process. For Example: /Business/Routines.
NOTE: The sub-directory location above is an EXAMPLE only. The sub-directory will be specific to the patch, and it will be clearly stated in the Readme file.
5. Exit the sFTP site.
6. Save the patch files to a temporary location on your Server, such as C:\Temp.
7. In Windows, go to Start All Programs VSI3 DB_Utilities
8. Select Apply Patch File and click Next.
9. Browse to the location where you saved the patch file(s). Highlight/select the file and click Open. Then click Next.
10. On the Patch Directory screen, select the directory that mirrors the location of the file when you obtained it from the FTP site. For example, if the patch file was in /Business/Routines on the FTP site, then you would select Business\Routines as your Destination directory here.
NOTE: The sub-directory location above is an EXAMPLE only. The sub-directory will be specific to the patch, and it will be clearly stated in the Readme file.
11. Click Process.
12. Repeat as needed for additional patch files, if any.
13. Launch OpenEdge Explorer and Trim all AppServers and WebSpeed brokers.
14. Distributed setup: Repeat these steps as needed on all Servers where WebSpeed or AppServers are processing.
This is the option Vermont Systems recommends.
OR
Copy the files directly to their required directory in RecTrac
1. Access the Vermont Systems sFTP site. Refer to Vermont Systems Knowledge Base entry 1516 for the current sFTP login credentials.
2. Once in the sFTP Site, browse to the location where the current Patch files are being stored. For Example: /File Updates And Drivers/RecTrac/3.1/Updates/3.1.10/Builds/_3.1.10.04.03_Patch_Files/
NOTE: The location above is an EXAMPLE only. The actual RecTrac version and/or build numbers will change with each release. Vermont Systems may not keep this Knowledge Base up to date with the current release level.
3. Read the Readme file. This contains important information you'll need for the patch. For best results, open the Readme.txt file in Notepad with wordwrapping turned on/enabled.
4. Highlight\Select the sub-directory as listed in the Readme.txt file. Right-click and Copy. For Example: If the Readme.txt file says the patch is in /Business, then copy the /Business sub-directory.
NOTE: The sub-directory location above is an EXAMPLE only. The sub-directory will be specific to the patch, and it will be clearly stated in the Readme file.
5. Exit the sFTP site.
6. On your Server, browse to <X>:\VSI3\RecTrac\Programs\.
7. Paste the copied sub- directory. You will be prompted to Merge directories. Choose Yes. For example, if you copied the /Business sub-directory in Step 4 above, then you will paste the /Business sub-directory in this step and Merge them.
NOTE: The sub-directory location above is an EXAMPLE only. The sub-directory is specific to the patch, and it will be clearly stated in the Readme file.
8. Select Copy and Replace for all conflicts.
9. Exit Windows Explorer when done.
10. Launch OpenEdge Explorer and Trim all AppServers and WebSpeed brokers.
11. Distributed setup: Repeat these steps as needed on all Servers where WebSpeed or AppServers are processing.
