10.3 and 3.1 Barcode readers not inputting the appropriate data into the swipe field when scanned in the browser
Problem
Barcode readers are not inputting the correct data into the swipe field when scanned in the browser. When a bar code scan is attempted users will get an error that there is not person associated with this ID, on about 75% of the scans. When scanning the ID cards into Notepad, or RecTrac 10.3 the data comes out correctly. The browser will sometimes insert a different Character, remove a character, or switch some of the characters around.
Solution
Check whether your antivirus solution is protecting your data in the browser, and either add an exception or disable it as needed.
In this specific instance the customer was using Honeywell MS7580 scanners, and the issue was caused by the Webroot Secure Anywhere Identity protect feature being enabled. You will either need to disable this feature or add an exception to it. See below forum for more details.
