10.3 and 3.1 Star 7542 Kitchen Printer Not Printing
Problem
We have a Star 7542 Kitchen Printer that is not able to print. What should we check?
Solution
The customer assumed that since 5 workstations would need to print to this kitchen printer, that it would be better to share from the server. But that share was not working. It could print from Windows fine, but could not print from RecTrac. They tried the Star driver and also Generic Text, and still could only print from Windows, not from RecTrac. Permissions on the share were for 'Full Control.'
We removed the server share and uninstalled the printer drivers from the server. We chose one workstation and created the printer share on it ('SHAREKIT'). In effect, they are now using this PC as a print server.
From that workstation, they tested the printer in Windows and in RecTrac and the new share worked. The new share worked from all other workstations as well.
