3.1 Users unable to print to shared USB Ithaca 280
Problem
Some users on RecTrac 3.1 report lost ability to print to shared USB Ithaca 280s after the 10.3 to 3.1 migration, and it seems related to switching from the Generic Text Only driver to the actual Transact driver.
Problem: Seems to be on Windows 7 clients - the local computer can print to the printer fine. The printer is shared out. When a remote client tries to connect or send a print job to it, they would get an error like Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x0000007e.
Transact has suggested to ensure the Enable Bi-Directional Support checkbox option is UNCHECKED/DE-SELECTED for BOTH installs of the printers on both the local PC and remote PC. This has been attempted, along with some suggested permissions to the printer and \system32\spool\printers folders.
Solution
Solution: Install the Ithaca printer locally on the remote client.
First, try to add a Local printer. Choose to create a new port. Enter the share path (for example \\\ITherm280). Choose the Transact Technologies ITherm280/576 driver. If you do not have the latest drivers, download them from http://www.transact-tech.com.
If the solution above does not work, add a Local printer. Select LPT2 for the port. Choose the Transact Technologies ITherm280/576 driver. Then, from a command prompt, type:
net use LPT2 \\sharing-computer-name\ITherm280 /persistent:yes
The persistent:yes part of this should keep the connection up even after rebooting the computer.
Note: This assumes the printer was shared with the name 'ITherm280'. Replace 'sharing-computer-name' with the workstation name the printer is shared from.
