3.1 Godex RT700i printer is skipping Passes and labels when printing to directly through RecTrac and VIC
Default Subject
Problem
When printing a pass or label to the Godex RT700i directly through RecTrac and VIC, passes and labels can be skipped if the page size that the VIC detects does not match that actual stock size set in the Godex RT700i printer preferences.
For example, a customer has 1-up peel-off labels with a gap in between each where the pass/label size is 2.87 in x 1.87 in. In the Windows printer preferences configuration for the Godex RT700i, on the Page Setup tab > Stock field, you can create a custom (USER) setting for the 2.87 in x 1.87 in label size. There are also default stock options like 4 in x 4 in, 4 in x 6 in, etc. When VIC queries the printer driver to determine the stock (label) size, it is picking up the first stock size in the list and not what the printer preferences stock size is set to. In this case, it was picking up the default stock size of 4 x 6 as reflected in the VIC log\ here:
[20/01/06@17:40:39.519-0500] 20022007 - Using Matching Paper: (4 x 6) In Default Orientation When printing is done directly through RecTrac and VIC this causes the printer to form feed on the blank label, then print the pass on the label, and then form feeds another blank label. This wastes label stock. If you open the pass PDF in Adobe and then print from Adobe to the Godex, it form feeds and prints just the one pass on the label.
Solution
Remove all named stock options in the Windows printers > Godex RT700i > Printing preferences except for the stock size that matches your label stock (e.g. USER (2.87 in x 1.87 in). This assumes that you have previously added a custom stock size if your labels do not match one of the default sizes.
Steps For Solution
- On the Windows 10 client workstation linked to the printer, go to Printers. Select the Godex RT700i printer and click Manage.
- Open Printing preferences.
- On the Page Setup tab, delete all Stock settings except for the custom stock setting that matches your label stock. For example, if the label stock you are using is 2.87 in x 1.87 in, the only stock configuration available should be USER (2.87 in x 1.87 in) and it should be selected.
- Apply the change.
- Click OK and close out of print settings.
