Problem
I like the new screen layout in RecTrac 3.1. What are all the parts and areas called?
Solution
See attached for an illustration with each screen part labeled. These are the terms we use to describe the parts of the RecTrac 3.1 screen:
Ribbon - The top line of the screen. Contains (from left to right) the screen title, menu headings, User Settings button, Document Center button, Notifications button, logged in User ID with an X for logging out.
Ribbon Bar - Appears below the ribbon when you click a menu heading. Can show/hide manually or show all the time based on a setting in the Menu Design Profile.
Program shortcuts - These are the menu items and can be represented as clickable links or as clickable buttons
Content Area - The area of the screen below the ribbon/ribbon bar, dedicated to content.
Tab - In any program, multiple screens are designated by labeled tabs at the top. To move from screen to screen, you can click the tabs, or the Previous/Next buttons.
Group - In any program, like or related fields of data may be grouped together in a rectangle that has a label. These groupings are called groups, and they can display as expanded or collapsed by default.
Field label - The wording next to an input field.
Field - An input field for data can be a fillin, a picklist, combo box, checkbox. Some fields may have other widgets attached to them, depending on the type of data to be input. For example:
A date field has a date picker (calendar) widget.
A time field has a clock widget.
A filename field has a file picker widget next to it.
A combobox has a clickable down arrow.
A picklist has a clickable up/down arrow.
Panel - When you open a program, a panel fills the content area. At the bottom, a rectangle is shown with that screen name and an X next to it. If you open 5 programs you will see 5 of these rectangles. You can move among your open programs by clicking on the various rectangles that are displayed. You can close programs either by clicking on the X at the bottom of the panel, or the X at the top right of the panel.
