Searching the RecTrac 3.1 Online Help for Multiple Keywords
Problem
Is there a way to search the 3.1 Online Help for two words together? For example background image.' It seems to be looking at each word individually.
Solution
Yes. Search functionality is dependent upon which version of RecTrac 3.1 you're running:
RecTrac 3.1.05.13 and greater
Use the Advanced Search functions.
From the Full Page Help, click Search. You will continue to the Advanced Search page.
- Whole Word Search and Words that contain Keywords fields may be used separately or together.
- Whole Word Search - The system returns exact matches of the word/words entered. Example: Entering Count finds 'count' but will NOT find 'counts' or 'accounting.' To search for multiple words, separate words using a space. Ex: Enrollment Count. To search for multiple words in exact order, enter them in quotation marks. Ex: 'Enrollment Count'.
- Words that contain Keywords - The system returns any match of the word. Ex: Entering Count finds 'count,' 'counts,' 'Accounting,' etc To search for multiple words, separate words using a space. Ex: Enrollment Count. To search for multiple words in exact order, enter them in quotation marks. Ex: 'Enrollment Count'.
- Match All finds every instance of the ALL the words entered. Example: 'Enrollment Count' will find 'enrollment' AND 'count' in the same Help field.
- To search for multiple words in exact order, enter them in quotation marks. Example: Entering 'Enrollment Count' will find all instances of 'enrollment count' but will not find 'enrollment max count.'
- Match Any finds every instance of ANY of the words entered. Example: 'Enrollment Count' will find 'enrollment' OR 'count' in a Help field.
- Click Search on the lower right-hand side of the screen.

RecTrac 3.1.05.12 and previous:
Separate by the words by an ampersand (&) with spaces on either side. That will yield results for any single instance in the Help where both words exist in the same database field, though they may not appear exactly as you entered them in your search.
So entering Activity & Reservation, for example, would provide results, such as but not limited to:
- 'Make an Activity Reservation...'
- 'Any Activity for which you have a Reservation...'
- 'If you have a Reservation for this Activity...'
- Etc.
Notes Regarding this Solution:
1. You can enter more than two words in your string. If doing so, use the same formula above: separate each word with a space and connect with an ampersand. For Example: Activity & Reservation & Date
2. VSI has not yet coded for a scenario where you can search for words exactly in the order as they appear.
3. The search is NOT a 'whole word only' Search. The search will return results for wherever the word appears. For Example: Searching for 'date' will return results for 'date,' 'dates,' 'update,' updates,' and etc This functionality is available in RecTrac 3.1.05.13 and greater, as noted above.
