How to Use Alpha Sequence when Cloning Records in RecTrac 3.1
Problem
I'm having trouble using the Alpha Sequence for cloning records. Can you explain how this work in RecTrac 3.1?
Solution
The File Maintenance Clone process in RecTrac 3.1 allows you to do Numeric Sequences and Alpha Sequences.
When choosing 'Alpha' as your Sequence Type, the Minimum and Maximum Sequence Numbers represent letters of the alphabet, where '0' = 'A,' '1' = 'B,' '2'='C,' and so forth up to '25' for 'Z'. For Example: Your New Record Code is Tiny Tots Swim-*. Your Minimum Sequence Number is '0,' and your Maximum Sequence Code is '10.' The first code created will be Tiny Tots Swim-A, the second code will be Tiny Tots Swim-B, etc through to 10, which will be Tiny Tots Swim-J.
In the event you have multiple asterisks, the system will continue using alpha characters in the sequence of the alphabet (AAA - AAZ, ABZ - AZZ, BZZ-ZZZ), rolling over at every 26th letter. For Example: Your New Record Code is Rock Climbing-***. Your Minimum Sequence Number is 0. Your Maximum Sequence Number is 75. The first code created will be Rock Climbing-AAA, the second code will be Rock Climbing-AAB, etc... the 27th code will be Rock Climbing-ABZ, the 28th will be Rock Climbing-ACZ, etc through to the 75the Code, Rock Climbing-ZZZ.
Note: Notice how the system goes through one sequence of the alphabet only. It DOES NOT do every possible combination of 'A-Z' (i.e. it does NOT do ABA-AZA, ACA-AZA, ADA-AZA,etc) in the event of multiple asterisks.
