How to display a custom message or webpage when WebTrac 3.1 is down unexpectedly
Problem
How do you automatically display a custom message or webpage when WebTrac (or RecTrac) 3.1 is down?
Solution
To have a customer-friend 'web page down' display when an unexpected outage occurs, you can place/create a wsCusErr.txt file in the OpenEdge \work directory on your web server (for webtrac) or on the RecTrac 3.1 server. This will either redirect the user automatically to a custom webpage or display a custom message if WebTrac or RecTrac 3.1 cannot connect.
The \work directory on your web server is dependent up on the version of OpenEdge you're running. Use the one that matches your setup.
\VSI\DLC102B\work
\VSI\DLC113\work
\VSI3\Progress\DLC11_wrk
If you want a custom message or url for RecTrac 3.1, then you would add the wsCusErr.txt file to \VSI3\Progress\DLC11_wrk directory on your RecTrac server.
Be sure that your Windows permissions on the servers allow access to the file and its location. Additionally, you may need to reboot the web server after placing the file on it.
To customize the wsCusErr.txt file, simply open it in Notepad and edit it however you prefer.
