3.1 Does VIC update automatically if a new version is included in a new RecTrac build?
Problem
Should the VIC version automatically update on the client workstation when a new version of VIC is released with a RecTrac build?
What is the registry entry that is needed so that VIC is auto updated?
Solution
Yes, provided the following are true:
1. The VIC Client was installed after RecTrac build 3.1.04.39.
2. You stop and start the VIC Service and the VIC.exe. Restarting VIC is a requirement of the auto-update process.
OR
You restart the workstation.
Prior to build 3.1.04.39, VIC would NOT auto-updated unless a manual Registry configuration had been made to allow for it.
1. IF VIC has been installed on or since the release of build 3.1.04.39, THEN VIC will auto-update whenever a new version of VIC is released with a new build of RecTrac 3.1 PROVIDED you stop and start the VIC Service and the VIC.exe. Restarting VIC is a requirement of the auto-update process.
2. IF VIC has NOT been installed on or since the release of build 3.1.04.39, THEN VIC will NOT auto-update UNLESS the client Registry contains the following entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\(VIC) Vermont Integration Client
UpdateURI should have a value something like this but with the name of your domain or server in the place of <your domain or server name>:
http://<your domain or server name>:4180/VIC/exe/VICexe.application
IF you are running RecTrac 3.1.04.39 or greater, THEN uninstalling and reinstalling VIC should create the necessary Registry entries so that future updates will be automatic.
Optionally, you can log into RecTrac using Internet Explorer 10 or later, go into the VIC Interface profile and click the Install/Update to create the necessary Registry entries.
