3.1 How to roll out the new VIC MSI (Windows Installer) without disrupting workstations using the original VIC method
Problem
Since the original VIC profile under Profile Assignments is linked to the Default level in the hierarchy, we do not want to remove that as it'll bring down all computers still using the original VIC during this transition. Steps below with assist in new install and how to only update/affect the specific workstation you're on.
Solution
- Setup new VIC profile and install on PC. See instructions in the Topic Document: VIC Installation using Windows Installer
-
In RecTrac, search for and go to Profile Assignments. Link new VIC Profile to the workstation you're using.
- 2a. If using a RecTrac LAN connection, ensure the 'Reverse DNS on Network' is enabled. If not, follow the 2b.
- 2b. If using a RecTrac WAN connection (or if you are VSI-Hosted), add "&workstation=<workstation name>" to the end of the URL. This will give RecTrac the workstation name to pickup profile assignments linked to it.
- For example, https://RecTrac.parkexample.org/wbwsc/client.wsc/login.html? interfaceParameter=RecTrac_1&workstation=frontdesk
- To assist your users, "favorite" the new URL and make shortcut on desktop or make a bookmark.
- Copy that icon to the C:\Users\Public\Desktop folder (will be hidden), so that it'll be on all users' desktop.
