3.1 What is 'VIC,' what is it used for, and how do you install it?
Question
What is 'VIC' and what is it used for?
Answer
Vermont Integration Client (VIC) the component of RecTrac 3.1 that allows you to use hardware (printers, pin pads, swipe devices, cash drawers, etc.) connected to client workstations. VIC is installed on a per workstation basis. Workstations that have hardware connected need to have VIC installed. Workstations that don't have hardware attached do not need to have VIC installed.
VIC can be installed as a Windows Service and as an .exe. For ease of daily operation, Vermont Systems recommends using VIC as a Windows Service on workstations where hardware is linked. There are some exceptions to the 'Use as a Service' recommendation. Most notably these are when using ETS as your Credit Card solution or Topaz signature units. In these instances (and others), VIC must be used/run as an .EXE.
Requirements:
- VIC must be installed on workstations that utilize peripheral hardware.
- VIC must be running.
- In Interface Parameter Management, a record with a 'VIC RecTrac' interface type must be setup.
- In Profile Assignments, a VIC profile must be setup and linked at the appropriate level.
