10.3 and 3.1 Connection Error on Client Workstations: Cannot Connect to RecTrac, Errno 0
Learn how to troubleshoot client workstation connection errors when attempting to connect to RecTrac, and discover the solutions for error code 0.
Problem
Client workstations cannot log into RecTrac. Connection attempts return the following message:
Connection error from client: Cannot connect to RecTrac, errno 0.
RecTrac is running on the database server and clients can ping the Server.
Telnet to the database server on port 2500 fails.
Solution
When RecTrac is running on the server and clients are able to ping but telnet fails, the culprit is typically a Windows Firewall on the server which is blocking access to port 2500.
Have your RecTrac System Administrator and/or IT professional either disable the firewall on the database server or allow communication through it on ports 2500 (RecTrac Live) and 2503 (RecTrac Demo).
To Open a Port on the Firewall:
1 Go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall
2 Click the Exceptions tab
3 Click Add Port...
4 Enter RecTrac Live in the Name field and enter 2500 in the Port Number field.
5 Choose the TCP radio set option.
6 Click OK. Repeat for port 2503, RecTrac Demo.
If the error persists and your client workstations still cannot connect, try adding exceptions to the Firewall for _mprosrv.exe and _mproshut.exe.
To Add an Exception to the Firewall:
1 Go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall
2 Click the Exceptions tab
3 Click Add Program...
4 Browse to the :\vsi\dlc10\bin\ directory, where is the drive partition on which Progress is installed, select the _mprosrv.exe program and click OK.
5 Browse to :\vsi\dlc10\bin\ directory, where is the drive partition on which Progress is installed, select the _mproshut.exe program and click OK.
