3.1 VIC Not Picking Up Workstation Level Profiles
Problem
VIC in RecTrac 3.1 is not picking up workstation level profiles such as VIC, drawer, peripherals, etc.
The VIC profile is linked at the correct user, user group, workstation, or default level of Profile Assignments, and this profile does work for some other workstations.
The VIC service and/or EXE are running.
The workstation's VICService or VICexe log in Windows Computer Management > Event Viewer > Applications and Services shows VIC resolving the local computer's name as a web address similar to below:
Menu Grp:Main; Target:System; Command:GetComputerName; Command Elapsed Time: 00:00:00.0570057; Result:computerNameBrowser_www.007guard.com
Solution
A third party application that protects against malware or adware, such as Spybot Search and Destroy, has modified the hosts file in C:\windows\System32\drivers\etc in a manner that causes VIC to improperly determine the name of the workstation.
To resolve this, add the below line to the top of the hosts file, and save it. You may have to deselect the read only attribute on this file before making the below change. If so, switch the file back to read-only after saving the file.
127.0.0.1 localhost
