3.1 (VSI) Event Timer Does Not Start in Windows 2012 when Appserver EVENTtimer Starts
Problem
(VSI) Event Timer will not automatically start in Windows 2012 when the Progress Appserver EVENT timer is started and running.
Solution
The Windows Service (VSI) Event Timer does not start when AppServer is running. The process of automatically starting the Windows service is executed by a net command that is found in the System32 folder called 'net.exe'. To troubleshoot this:
- Open a DOS prompt (in Windows Start Run cmd).
- Type cd\ and press <Enter>. This will bring you to a c:\ prompt
- Type "net" and press <Enter>. If it returns an invalid message, continue with next step.
- Type "path" and press <Enter>. Somewhere in the results, it should have a path to \system32. In this case, the path to \system32 was preceded with two semicolons. This was not correct.
- To remove the semicolons, we did the following:
- Went into environmental variables under 'Control Panel System Advanced System Settings Environmental Variables.
- Removed the two semi-colons from the path by highlighting in the System Variables and clicking the edit button
- Once the change was complete, clicked OK.
- Restarted the server, and then the (VSI) Event Timer started working. As well, the path and net commands work in the DOS prompt.
