System Email: 3.1 Database Extent reaching its capacity
Problem
The RecTrac system sent an email yesterday saying we have an Extent warning:
The database has an extent that is reaching capacity. Please Visit 'Database Extent Management' in 'System Management' to add Extents to the following areas: RT SM DataII, RT BLOBII'
How do we go about adding Extents and do we have to kick people off or can we add an Extent without interrupting the users?
Solution
This solution is applicable to RecTrac 3.1.10.05.05 and previous.
The message you received explains what needs to be done.
1. Go to Database Extent Management (Management Ribbon System Management Misc Management group, in the Standard VSI Design) and Add Extent(s) for the areas listed. In your case: RT SM DataII and RT BLOBII.
2. This can be done 'on the fly' with no interruption to your service. No one needs to log out of RecTrac and no restart is needed.
3. Extents that are nearing capacity will be highlighted in red.
4. Highlight/select the extent nearing capacity and click Add Extent(s). The process runs on the AppServer. You will be notified when the process completes.
5. Upon completion, click the Refresh button on the Database Extent Management DataGrid.
6. Exit when done.
7. Also: go the full page Help on the Database Extent Management program. Scroll up to the top for step-by-step instruction and field definitions.
Note: In the event you use Offload Servers, you cannot run this program to add extents. If you use Offload Servers, refer to Knowledge Base KA-01368.
