Question
Received an email, "Database Extent Size Warning. The database has an extent that is reaching capacity. Please Visit 'Database Extent Management' in 'System Management' to add Extents to the following areas: XYZ, ABC."
What should I do?
Answer
The following solution is applicable to RecTrac 3.1.10.05.05 and previous. Users running RecTrac 3.1.10.06.00 and greater should have Database Extent Add running automatically, so no user interaction is required.
Go to Database Extent Management and add an extent. The program allocates more space within the database to allow for more records.
The following steps can be run "on the fly." Users do not have to exit the RecTrac 3.1 application and no restart or logout is required.
- In RecTrac, search for and go to the Database Extent Management program.
- Highlight/select the extent that is nearing capacity. Extents nearing capacity display in red highlight on the DataGrid. You can only select extents nearing capacity. Other extents are not selectable.
- Select a Fixed Extent Size. VSI recommends selecting 1 GB.
- VSI recommends accepting the default value in the Number of Fixed Extents to Add.
- Click Add Extent(s). The process runs on the AppServer. You will be notified when the process completes.
- Upon completion, click the Refresh button on the Database Extent Management DataGrid.
- The process always adds a number of Fixed Extents of the number and size you select and one (1) additional variable extent of the size you select. The initial space in the variable extend will always be 512KB. When running this program using the settings above, the process would add two (2) extents: a 1GB Fixed Extent and a 1 GB Variable Extent with 512KB pre-allocated.
- Exit the program when ready.
Note: In the event you use Offload Servers, you cannot run this program to add extents. If you use Offload Servers, refer to Knowledge Base KA-01368.
