3.1 Truncating Log files removes vital messages for OEM Database log monitors
Default Subject
Problem
We do not want to truncate/purge our rectrac.lg log file because doing so would remove vital messages needed for our organization's OEM Database log monitors.
Solution
No problem. You can choose to not truncate your RecTrac database log file during a scheduled backup. That is recommended when using Progress's OEM*. What you need to do is remove the messages that are often the reason for needing to truncate in the first place. Discontinue the Truncating of the recTrac.lg file by unchecking the selection box within the backup profile in RecTrac. Recreate your scheduled event. Then add -omitLgMsgs 7129,15914,742,17961,739 to the Other arguments field in the under the LIVE DB's configuration.live.defaulconfiguration. This will decrease the overall size of the RecTrac.lg making the need for truncating non-existent.
*This solution is only for those who use Progress OEM this is not a product installed by default. Customers who are not sure if they use Progress OEM should contact Vermont Systems Support.
Once you turn off truncating you should set up a reminder to review the size of the RecTrac.lg every 6-8 months. A RecTrac.lg file that gets too large will prevent WebSpeed Brokers and AppServer Brokers from writing to it thus preventing those broker from starting properly.
Steps For Solution
- Log into Progress Open Edge Management and select Resources then Go to Resources.
- Scroll down to Databases and then select your database.
- Click Configuration.
- Click configuration.live.defaultconfiguration.
- Click Edit.
- On the General tab, you will see an area called Other Arguments.
- Add -omitLgMsgs 7129,15914,742,17961,739 after "-lruskips 500" (make sure there is a space between the 500 and the -OmitLGMsgs).
