Problem
Is there a list of database log codes we can keep for reference when creating log monitors? Customer is using Progress Open Edge Manager (OEM)*.
*This solution is only for those who use Progress OEM this is not a product installed by default. Customers who are not sure if they use Progress OEM should contact Vermont Systems Support.
Solution
To gather all of the Log messages possible, you can open the promsgs file (with no file extension) within the Progress Open Edge installation directory: X:\vsi3\Progrss\DLC117\ (where X is the driveletter in which Progress is installed).
Notes: This file will lists 3000+ messages not just database-specific log messages. Promsgs is a Linux binary file, which may not display as expected within Windows without the helper program Strings installed.
Using Linux:
- View on Linux using this command: strings dlc117/promsgs |less
Using Windows with Strings:
- Download Windows Strings: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/strings#using-strings
- Extract the zip.
- Run Strings64 as administrator.
- Open Command Prompt and then enter: strings X:\vsi3\Progrss\DLC117\promsgs
- Alternatively, to save it to a text file: strings X:\vsi3\Progrss\DLC117\promsgs >> X:\temp\messages.txt (specifying the desired output path and filename for your new text file)
