HTTP Depreciation with Chrome 92 Onward Affecting VIC connectivity
Table of Contents
Problem
With Chrome 92 and newer, Google is blocking InSecure access to HTTP direction which is affecting VIC to work. This only affects RecTrac connections still on HTTP.
Solution
The ideal solution is to get an HTTPS connection established for RecTrac and the workaround below may only be temporary. The workaround is to add Registry keys to force Chrome to allow insecure connections.
Solution and info from https://developer.chrome.com/blog/private-network-access-update/. Steps to add keys are below.
Steps For Solution
- Go to Regedit.MSC
- Expand to Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google (if Google does not exist, add it)
- Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome (if Chrome does not exist add it)
- Add new String Value of: InsecurePrivateNetworkRequestsAllow
- Set Value Data to: 0x00000000
- Add Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\InsecurePrivateNetworkRequestsAllowedForUrls
- Add new String Value of 1
-
Set Value Data to: http:<servername>:4180 (replace <servername> with actual server name)
Example: http://rectrac31:4180
Add new String Value of 2
Set Value Data to http://localhost:55100 (if using older VIC, set the port number to 65100)
