Problem
We need to change the Access Control Workstation (VIC listening computer) to a different/new computer. What steps do we need to take to make the switch?
Solution
You will have to configure VIC to listen for access control traffic on the new workstation. Then you also need to update the "server IP address" on the readers in the IBC utility.
Note:
Your Access Control Workstation is the workstation that has VIC installed and configured to listen for Access Control traffic.
Steps For Solution
Change Server IP address on Readers in IBC Utility (If IP isn’t going to be the same):
Remove Registry Key on old Access Control Workstation:
Note:
Make note of which VIC installation method you are currently using whether that's Service or EXE. See step 3 below:
- Open the Registry Editor by going to Windows Start Menu and typing in Regedit.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\VSI\VSI VIC.
- Highlight the CommandLineArgsEXE (if using VIC Exe) or CommandLineArgs (if using VIC Service)
- Right-click and click Delete.
Configure Registry Key on New Access Control Workstation:
- While logged into RecTrac on the machine designated to run Access Control, and while successfully connected to VIC, use the RecTrac main menu to go to Profile Assignments.
- Highlight the Access Profile.
- Click Update.
- Click the Configure button at the bottom of the screen that matches your VIC installation (Configure Service for Access Control or Configure EXE for Access Control). The process will run automatically.
- Note: Refer to step 3 under Remove Registry Key on old Access Control Workstation section and choose the button that matches your previous VIC installation.
- Click Continue when prompted.
- Exit completely out of RecTrac. Do NOT save the session.
- Close your web browser.
- Restart VIC.
- If using the EXE:
- From the Windows System Tray, locate and right-click the VIC icon.
- Click Exit.
- From the Windows Start Menu, search for VIC and double-click it to restart it.
- If using the Service:
- Go to Windows Services.
- Locate and highlight the VSI VIC Service.
- Click Stop and then Click Start to restart the Service.
- If using the EXE:
- Log back into RecTrac on the workstation.
-
Note: It is recommended to go to the Registry on the new workstation and confirm that the CommandLineArgs, or CommandLineArgsExe is there. If it is not, when using the VIC exe follow these steps:
- Exit VIC
- Right-click on the VIC icon on the desktop and click Run as Administrator.
- Repeat the steps above.
-
Note: It is recommended to go to the Registry on the new workstation and confirm that the CommandLineArgs, or CommandLineArgsExe is there. If it is not, when using the VIC exe follow these steps:
Your new Access Control Workstation (VIC Listening Computer) should now be configured. Test Access Control device functionality to confirm.
