HTTP Redirection in IIS
RecTrac 3.1.10.30.01
Table of Contents
Problem
We would like to set up a Webtrac redirect to provide a simple URL for patrons to access our site. Currently, they need to enter the full URL path to the splash.html page to see our home page. Where can we set this up on the WebTrac server?
Error Message
Using the base URL without some type of redirect setup would give a 403 error.
Solution
Using HTTP Redirection in IIS allows for HTTPS redirection with just the base site URL. Typically if you have a site like https://MyWebTrac.com it would need the full URL https://MyWebTrac.com/wbwsc/webtrac.wsc/splash.html to hit the splash page.
Steps For Solution
- Enable HTTP Redirection in Windows features.
- The Windows features path is Internet Information Services > World Wide Web Services > Common HTTP Features > HTTP Redirection.
- Once enabled, go to your WebTrac site in IIS and click on the Sites folder for the website.
- Click on HTTP Redirection.
- Enable Redirect requests to this destination and place your fully qualified URL in the path.
- Enable Redirect all requests to the exact destination.
- Enable Only redirect requests to content in this directory.
- Click Apply.
Open your preferred Web browser and test your changes, the newly implemented URL redirect should now work.
