10.3 and 3.1 Credit Card Processing Decision Points
Problem
We would like to start allowing payments using credit cards. What is the process to get credit cards up and running in RecTrac? What are our options? What type of credit card merchant account do we need?
Solution
Your first step should be to call VSI and speak to one of our Sales representatives. They will ask you about how you do business, what your facilities are like, and more. These answers will help them guide you to the right hardware and/or processor.
The type of merchant account needed is based on your business needs. Remember that card processing fees are negotiable, but in general, the lowest pricing will be for card-present, card-swiped data. For example:
Regular merchant accounts are recommended for places where you have clerk present and card readers/swipers at the RecTrac workstation.
MOTO (Mail Order Telephone Order) merchant accounts are recommended for customers who allow installment billing and credit card auto-debiting. The card is only present for the initial setup, and then all subsequent debits are done with no card present.
ECommerce merchant accounts are recommended for users of WebTrac, where the card is never present.
