Problem
I want to use the sFTP feature in RecTrac to send financial report data to our municipality's secure FTP server. I do not know what the host key should be or how to find it.
Solution
You can use WinSCP to easily obtain the host key for the sFTP site you are attempting to communicate with.
Steps For Solution
- Download, Install, and Run WinSCP.
- Enter the sFTP URL as the Hostname.
- Click Login.
- You will receive a pop-up to the lower right, click Copy key fingerprints to clipboard.
Note:
If you have previously logged into the sFTP site with credentials and have already accepted the host key you will need to select Tools > Clean Up > Check all boxes >OK. This will clear the cache then you can begin again at step 2.
- From the Windows taskbar, search for and open Notepad.
- Paste the Key Fingerprints into the blank Notepad document.
- You will see two lines of information the Host key is the second line of information.
- For example, "ssh-ed25519 255 10:57:12:c9:b3:c2:52:d0:c1:8e:d3:92:56:fa:75:a9"
- Highlight and copy just the Host Key from Notepad.
- Open RecTrac and log in.
- From the RecTrac main menu, go to System Code Management.
- Click Add.
- Enter a unique, identifiable System Code.
- Change Type to sFTP Connection.
- Enter the Connection URL.
- Paste the copied Host Key into the corresponding field.
- If necessary for this connection, enter a Username and Password.
- Click Save.
The sFTP Host Key information should now be ready to use when electing to FTP data out of RecTrac.
